What's On in Westminster: Frieze London, Then Diwali on the Square

Westminster’s next six weeks belong to two big free-to-watch days and one very expensive week. Frieze London and Frieze Masters take over The Regent’s Park from 14 October, the Royal Parks Half Marathon closes roads through Hyde Park, Green Park and St James’s Park on Sunday 11 October, and Diwali on the Square fills Trafalgar Square for free on Sunday 25 October. Around them, St Martin-in-the-Fields is marking its 300th anniversary with the busiest concert diary in the borough, and Westminster Abbey and the Royal Parks have filled half term.

• Frieze Sculpture 2026, on now until Sunday 1 November. The English Gardens, The Regent’s Park. Free. A free outdoor exhibition of work by 11 international artists, including Conrad Shawcross and Angel Otero (The Royal Parks).
• Mozart Requiem and Allegri Miserere, Wednesday 30 September, 7pm to 8.45pm. Westminster Abbey, SW1P 3PA. £0 to £45. The St Margaret’s Choristers and The English Concert, with Haydn’s Salve Regina and Mozart’s Ave verum corpus (Westminster Abbey).
• Fretwork 40th Anniversary, Thursday 1 October, 7pm. Wigmore Hall, Wigmore Street. £18 to £50. The viol consort’s birthday concert, with Sir George Benjamin conducting and Iestyn Davies and Ian Bostridge singing (Wigmore Hall).
• Courageous Change: Windborne in Concert, Saturday 3 October, 7.30pm. St Martin-in-the-Fields, WC2N 4JJ. £10 to £36. The US a cappella folk group sings songs of protest and solidarity (St Martin-in-the-Fields).
• Sunday Morning Concert: Armand Djikoloum and Jâms Coleman, Sunday 4 October, 11.30am. Wigmore Hall. £18, concessions £16, with coffee, sherry or juice included. An hour of oboe and piano, from Clara Schumann to Pavel Haas (Wigmore Hall).

• Here I Stand: Janina Ramirez, Monday 5 October, 7pm. St Martin-in-the-Fields. Suggested £10, with free tickets available. The historian on the seventh-century Abbess of Whitby, opening the church’s autumn lecture series (St Martin-in-the-Fields).
• The Regent’s Park After Dark: Bats and Fungi, Tuesday 6 October, 6.15pm to 8.15pm, and Friday 9 October, 6pm to 8pm. The Regent’s Park. Free, adults only. A dusk walk with bat detectors and ultraviolet torches for fungi that glow (The Royal Parks).
• Hyde Park Nursery Walking Tour, Thursday 8 October, Tuesday 13 October and Friday 16 October, 4pm to 5.30pm each day. Hyde Park. Adults only; £3 tickets for people on Universal Credit or Pension Credit. A look round the working nursery that grows almost half a million plants a year for the parks. The other October dates are sold out (The Royal Parks).
• London Voices: Video Games Go Choral, Thursday 8 October, 7pm. St Martin-in-the-Fields. £10 to £45. Choral music from Halo and other games, paired with Pärt and Howells (St Martin-in-the-Fields).
• Hidden Stories of Hyde Park Walking Tour, Friday 9 October, 11am to 12.30pm. Hyde Park. Adults only. From the Tyburn Tree to Speakers’ Corner, finishing in the Victorian Pet Cemetery (The Royal Parks).
• SANSARA: Choral Reflections for World Homeless Day, Friday 9 October, 7.30pm. St Martin-in-the-Fields. £10 to £35. Gavin Bryars’s Jesus’ Blood Never Failed Me Yet in a new choral version, on the eve of World Homeless Day (St Martin-in-the-Fields).
• Chorister Experience Day, Saturday 10 October, 11am to 4.15pm. Westminster Abbey. Free, booking required. A day for children who might want to sing in the Abbey choir, run by Westminster Abbey Choir School (Westminster Abbey).
• Oysho Royal Parks Half Marathon, Sunday 11 October. Starts in Hyde Park. Entries have closed. 13.1 miles on closed roads through Hyde Park, The Green Park, St James’s Park and Kensington Gardens, with the event village in Hyde Park open to everyone (Royal Parks Half).

• Feast of the Translation of Saint Edward the Confessor, Tuesday 13 October, 5pm to 6pm. Westminster Abbey. Free, no booking. The Abbey’s Edwardtide service for its founder (Westminster Abbey).
• An evening with Kate Williams: Women and power, Wednesday 14 October, 7pm to 8pm. Lady Chapel, Westminster Abbey. £15. The historian and broadcaster on women and power (Westminster Abbey).
• Frieze London and Frieze Masters, Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 October. The Regent’s Park; Frieze London’s entrance is off Park Square West, NW1 4LL. Weekend general admission £48, children £10. The fairs open on the 14th by invitation; general admission starts at 1pm on Thursday 15th, runs 11am to 7pm on Friday and Saturday and 11am to 6pm on Sunday, with no re-entry (Frieze).
• Flowers in the Fields, Thursday 15 to Saturday 17 October, from 10am. St Martin-in-the-Fields. Free, donations encouraged. A flower festival filling the church for its 300th anniversary, with paid demonstrations in the Gallery (St Martin-in-the-Fields).
• Hidden Stories of St James’s Park Walking Tour, Friday 16 October, 1.15pm to 2.45pm. St James’s Park. Adults only. The park’s royal history, ending at the pelicans’ daily feeding (The Royal Parks).
• The English Concert: Handel’s Scipione, Friday 16 October, 7pm. St Martin-in-the-Fields. £10 to £65. Harry Bicket conducts the opera that was the hit of 1726, the year the church was consecrated (St Martin-in-the-Fields).
• Elgar: The Dream of Gerontius, Saturday 17 October, 7pm. St Martin-in-the-Fields. £9 to £35. A candlelit anniversary performance by the church’s own choirs and chamber orchestra (St Martin-in-the-Fields).
• Fungi Walk: Citizen Science, Tuesday 20 October and Tuesday 3 November, 2pm to 3.30pm. The Regent’s Park. Free, register in advance. An autumn walk recording the park’s fungi (The Royal Parks).
• Ex Cathedra: In 40 Parts, Spem in Alium, Thursday 22 October, 7pm. St Martin-in-the-Fields. £10 to £45. Tallis’s 40-voice motet and other 40-part works, including a new piece by Roderick Williams (St Martin-in-the-Fields).

• Discovery Days: Hair raising Halloween, Tuesday 27 to Thursday 29 October, 11am to 3.30pm, last entry 3pm. Hyde Park Learning Centre. Free. Half-term drop-in activities for families: a nature trail, feely boxes in the Witches’ Den and a spooky story (The Royal Parks).
• The King’s Singers: Finding Harmony, Friday 30 October, 7.30pm. St Martin-in-the-Fields. £10 to £55. The vocal ensemble celebrates the church’s 300th birthday (St Martin-in-the-Fields).

November

• Drawn to Nature: Lino printing with seed heads, Monday 2 November and Monday 9 November, 10am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 4pm. The Regent’s Park. Free for adults, with a £5 deposit refunded after you attend. Carve and print your own seed-head designs (The Royal Parks).
• National Service of Remembrance, Sunday 8 November, 11am. The Cenotaph, Whitehall. No ticket needed to watch. The government dates Remembrance weekend as 7 to 8 November (GOV.UK); our Cenotaph guide has the timings and where to stand.
