A borough of neighbourhoods
Westminster has no residential centre, so we write about the parts: Marylebone, Mayfair, Belgravia and Knightsbridge’s western edge, Pimlico and Victoria, Soho and Covent Garden’s western half, Paddington and Bayswater, St John’s Wood and Maida Vale, and Church Street and Queen’s Park at the northern end. Mayfair and Belgravia are among the most expensive addresses in the country and Church Street and Queen’s Park are severely deprived, and both are the same council’s responsibility.
What we cover
The service side of this borough is unusually heavy, and it is where most residents actually meet the council: controlled parking zones, resident and visitor permits, waste collection in streets with no front gardens, and council tax at the top of the scale. Alongside that we report from Westminster City Council’s planning register and committee papers, licensing decisions for the West End, police.uk crime data, HM Land Registry sold prices, Food Standards Agency hygiene ratings, and company filings in The Gazette.
How we report
Every fact is tied to a named source and linked, so you can check the original instead of trusting us. Where a record is unclear, we say it is unclear. We write in plain British English, we do not print press releases as reporting, and we do not use other outlets’ photographs. This is a borough where national politics happens to be located; we cover the council, not Parliament.
